DAVISVILLE VILLAGE REAL ESTATE

The Davisville Village (often referred to only as Davisville) is located south of Yonge and Eglinton, is a residential area popular with both families and singles. Schools, shopping, trendy restaurants and boutiques are predominant, with easy subway access to downtown Toronto. Davisville is a diversified neighbourhood and extends from Merton Street at the south end, to Eglinton Avenue to the north, and from Bayview Avenue going east, to Yonge Street going west.

Davisville is sometimes overlooked for better-known neighbourhoods like Leaside to the east, Chaplin Estates to the west, Lawrence Park and North Toronto to the north, and Moore Park to the south. But do not dismiss Davisville; it is a bustling and amazingly diversified neighbourhood with a real sense of community. With shops and services on the three major north-south intersections; Yonge Street, Mount-Pleasant and Bayview, residents of Davisville are always just steps away from a grocery store, drug store and a variety of specialty shops.

Davisville is the perfect area for anyone working in downtown Toronto who wants a quieter area to live in that is still easily accessible to major shopping and entertainment areas. While this area has all the amenities a resident might need like restaurants, subway access, grocery stores, drug stores, it is also close to parks and the beautiful Mount Pleasant cemetery, which is favoured for walks & bike rides by Toronto residents. One of the advantages of this neighbourhood is that there are various other interesting areas within walking distance. Also, one of Toronto's many cycling (or walking) paths is accessible from just south of Yonge & Davisville, from which a whole network of paths is available throughout the city.

Most of the houses here were built in the 1920's and 1930s and are mostly 2 and 3 storey homes although there are still a few bungalows. However, there has been a series of condominium projects built on streets like Merton, Balliol, Millwood, Mount Pleasant, Bayview, Broadway, Yonge and Eglinton, just to name a few. These new condo complexes have allowed for an influx of single buyers and young upwardly mobile couples, who want to live on the subway line with the possibility of walking to all services, without living downtown. People choose Davisville for its lifestyle and its community as well as its urban look-and-feel!

DAVISVILLE VILLAGE HISTORY

Davisville Village is named after John Davis, who immigrated to Canada from Staffordshire, England in 1840. John Davis served as Davisville's first postmaster and helped found the Davisville Public School. He also operated the Davis Pottery, which became the Village's largest employer.

The south part of Davisville was subdivided in the 1860's on land owned mostly by the Davis family. The north part of the Village belonged to the Church. This latter tract of land, known as the Davisville Glebe, remained undeveloped until 1911 when it was sold to the Dovercourt Land and Building Company, the same company that oversaw the development of the Lawrence Park neighbourhood.

LOCAL NEWS

TOWN CRIER LEASIDE-ROSEDALE (Servicing Davisville Village)

INTENTION TO DESIGNATE A MOUNT-PLEASANT BIA (Business Improvement Area)

Great News!!! Davisville will soon have it's own Business Improvement Area! There is intention to designate the area along Mount Pleasant Road between the lands just north of Eglinton Avenue East and the lands just north of Davisville Avenue as the Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area (BIA)

In September 2007, a group of business people along Mount Pleasant Road between Roehampton Avenue and Davisville Avenue met to determine if there was interest to create a BIA. An information meeting was held on February 25, 2008 and hosted by the Steering Committee.

In March 2008, the Steering Committee distributed invitations to all business tenants in the area and invitations to property owners were mailed by the City's BIA Office for a formal public meeting held on March 31, 2008. The business owners that attended the meeting were very enthusiastic and indicated a strong interest in forming a BIA. In addition, the Steering Committee received many positive telephone calls from local commercial owners and tenants who could not attend the meetings. The Steering Committee has followed the City's procedures for establishing a BIA. In October of 2008, a report was issued with recommendations regarding the poll results for the proposed Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area fronting on Mount Pleasant Road from Davisville Avenue to the commercial properties just north of Eglinton Avenue East as a Business Improvement Area (BIA). it was recommended that Council pass a by-law to designate the area described above as the Mount Pleasant BIA.
